Medical And Safety Issues for your puppy

It doesn't matter where you got your puppy from, visit you local veterinarian for immunization. One visit, however is not enough. Once the puppy is old enough, about 4 months, it's requires 3 doses over a period of 4 weeks and a Rabies immunization shot.

At home, make sure you introduce your new family member to other pets you in your home. Introduce slowly, it is not uncommon for bigger dogs to hurt the puppy because it wants to be "the leader of the pack".

And of course, make sure you supervise you puppy like you would an infant. Common sense would tell you not to leave your puppy near wires, choking objects, poison like pesticides. A puppy's toy should be much bigger than its mouth to prevent choking.

Tips in feeding your puppies

Begin offering food to pups at 3 weeks of age. Over the weeks, change their diet slowly.
Choose high-quality puppy food that has 25 to 30 percent protein content.
Purchase dog food that mentions both AAFCO and Animal Feeding Trials on its label.
Make it into gruel with warm water or commercially prepared milk replacer.
Feed puppies three to four times a day until they're 5 to 6 months of age.
Check with your veterinarian to find out the correct amount of food to give your puppy at each feeding. Or check the package of puppy food, which may provide guidelines based on size. Avoid overfeeding.
Use puppy food specifically made for large breeds to encourage slow growth for large-breed puppies. Feed them puppy food for up to 12 to 18 months, depending on the breed.
Observe puppies weekly for appearance of weight gain. Puppies should gain 2 to 4 g per day per kg of anticipated adult weight for the first 5 months of life.
Feed the dogs twice daily for the rest of their lives after 6 months of age.

Tips on keeping your dog clean

I though at first that puppies must be bathe everyday to keep her clean. but with Sofie, it is different. One fact I learn when we keep Sofie is that puppies should not be bathed more than once a month. Over bathing puppies may cause dryness of there skin.

As the puppy grows older, you can increase their bath frequency to twice a month or once a week. But have you ask if what to do if your puppies smells awful after few days of washing them? Well, you just wipe them with cloth and please don't let them stay wet. Dry them by using clean cloth.

Do not use your perfumes and body sprays. There are sprays that are approved for animals.

Waterless bath sprays work wonders in between bath times, as well. look for You spray the product on the dog and wipe it off. Some waterless bath sprays contain conditioning and moisturizing ingredients which enhance the dog's skin and coat.

How to take care of your puppy on their first night

When Sofie first came to our house, she was so lonely as though she wanted to cry while everybody in the house were to excited to have her. All of us became helpless that night because she can’t sleep…Maybe she miss her parents so much that’s why she was crying..We put her in bed beside us so she could feel that she was not alone and she was comforted. And then she started to fall asleep. Here are some tips that I have read in some site that I wanted to share…

On the first night of your puppy in your home and you can’t bear her cry throughout the night. Take the softhearted approach and place his crate next to your bed. The puppy will know that you are near, or you can place your fingers into the crate and soothe him if he whines during the night. Never hit your puppy for crying.

To help your puppy feel more comfortable during his first night, when picking up your puppy, ask the breeder for a soft toy or cloth that was with the puppy's mother and littermates, and place it in his sleeping quarters.

If your pup is having trouble sleeping soundly in his crate, place a sheet over the front door of the crate. Leave the side air holes uncovered. The pup will soon learn that when the door is covered, it is time to sleep for the night. (We usually do that to Sofie and it works)

Some people choose to allow their pups to sleep in bed with them. Remember, this will quickly become a habit that will be difficult to break later. If you allow you puppy to sleep in bed with you, make sure that this is something you want to continue when the pup is fully grown. It is easier to train a young pup, than to retrain a grown adult dog.

This is Sofie's dog toy food. The pet shop told me that it is made of cow's skin and eventually be soften and can be eaten if constantly chew. This is good for the dogs and puppies.
